Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

Tyler“Golfing is a passion for many, but few attempt to go “Pro.” Tyler Steptoe is one of those few. What is so unique about Tyler is that he discovered his talent and has perfected it, for the most part, all on his own. He has done such an excellent job that he is receiving a golf scholarship to Shorter University for this fall.

Almost every little boy, during childhood, sets their dreams on being a professional sports player of some kind. Tyler’s sports of choice until high school were football and baseball. He never gave a whole lot of thought to golf, besides occasionally watching his Dad play for fun. In 2004 he was invited to play in a local tournament and won! Winning a tournament is very impressive for anyone, but someone with little training, now that’s super impressive! High school level golf and baseball seasons run during the same time of year, so a choice had to be made. Tyler chose golf, feeling that he would be able to advance further and possibly make it to the Pro level.

Tyler has enhanced his game by applying what feels right; this is a guy with raw and natural talent, only having had a few weeks of training in his life.

“Tyler is a great young man. I am honored to have had the opportunity to coach him. He is what any coach would want for their program, both on and off the field; he’s respectful, motivated, poised, and a great role model for others. His moving on to the next level is a great testament to his work ethic. He’s one of the greatest student athletes I’ve ever coached, he will accomplish great things and make us very proud,” says his Head Golf Coach at Richmond Hill High School, Alex Gray.” Richmond Hill Reflections Magazine, Volume 5  Number 3
